Overload and Underload Policy
Students are ordinarily expected to register within the credit limits for their program: 12 to 15 credits for full-time students and 8 to 11 credits for part-time students. Students seek approval for overloads or underloads from the Associate Dean for Students. Email your petition (an email in letter form is acceptable) to Dean Bretschneider at jennifer.bretschneider@temple.edu setting for the reasons for the request.
Full-time students may be permitted to register for a one credit overload (16 credits) in one upper-level semester. Part-time students may be permitted to register for a one credit (12 credits) overload in two upper-level semesters.
A full-time student who will be registering for sufficient credits to graduate on time may elect to enroll in an underload of eleven (11) credits during either the fifth or sixth semester (but not both). A petition for permission is not required.
An underload or overload shall not result in a change of program classification for tuition or any other purpose. Other requests for overloads must be submitted to the Faculty Administrative Committee through the Associate Dean for Students.
