Liam Kelly (LAW ’29)
Liam Kelly (he/him) comes to Temple as a day division student after teaching English at Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational/Technical School. While there, he joined the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers and was elected to represent his coworkers on the school-level union building committee. Prior to teaching, Liam worked as a union organizer for SEIU in Colorado and for UNITE HERE, where he participated in a unionization drive for restaurant workers at the Denver airport. He is a 2019 graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
Liam’s primary focus at Temple Law is labor law. More broadly, he is interested in workers’ rights, economic democracy, and the many ways that workplace and economic rights intersect with other social issues.
Liam’s professional aspirations are to work as a labor law attorney, ideally for a union-side firm or in-house at a union. He hopes to be involved in creative legal strategies for challenges in organizing new unions and negotiating contracts that pursue transformative demands and ultimately in labor law reform, with the goal of re-balancing the scales of labor law for workers.
Sophia Ma (LAW ’29)
Sophia Ma (she/her) joins Temple Law in the day division after working as a legal assistant at Ellis Porter, an immigration law firm focused primarily on employment-based Green Cards and work visas. In 2025, she graduated from Vassar College with a double major in Chinese and Philosophy. She first became drawn to immigration law during her junior year of college, when she took a course on international refugee law while studying abroad in Copenhagen. Meeting with individuals seeking asylum in Denmark and Greece as part of her coursework was deeply influential, and hearing their stories as well as their experiences as refugees solidified her resolve to pursue a career that would help individuals fight for their right to a better life. The following summer, Sophia also participated in an on-site ethnography program in Malaysia. Examining the critical issues facing migrant and refugee communities there further strengthened her desire to work with migrant groups. Throughout her time at Vassar College, she additionally was an active member and president of Vassar Refugee Solidarity.
Sophia’s primary area of interest is immigration law, and she is excited to explore international human rights law and asylum law at Temple. In her legal career, she hopes to serve the immigrant community through representation and advocacy for a more equitable immigration system.
