Jacob Schuman is an Associate Professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he teaches Constitutional Law and the Law of the Police. His scholarship focuses on the law of community supervision (probation, parole, and supervised release), and has been published or is forthcoming in the Stanford Law Review, Michigan Law Review, Virginia Law Review, Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law, Philadelphia Inquirer, and New Republic, among other journals. His work has also been cited by courts, scholars, and advocates, and won plaudits from across the ideological spectrum, including both the American Constitution and Federalist Societies.
Prior to joining Temple Law, Professor Schuman worked in the appellate unit of the Federal Community Defender Office in Philadelphia, representing indigent criminal defendants before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He was also an Assistant Professor at Penn State Law School, where he won the Student Bar Association Faculty Equity Award. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, he clerked for the Honorable Michael Boudin on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Honorable James Boasberg on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He served as Notes Chair of the Harvard Law Review.
