All applicants for financial assistance for the 2024-2025 academic year must file the following:
- 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) need analysis application
- 2025-2026 Temple Law School Financial Aid Request Form
Admitted/Entering Students
The priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 15, 2024.
Current/Returning Students
The priority deadline for financial aid for the 2024-2025 academic year is March 15, 2024 for both the FAFSA and the Temple Law School Financial Aid Request Form. Please contact our office directly if you need to request financial aid for the current academic year.
Applicants who have filed the required financial aid forms by the priority deadline will be considered for a Law School Grant, and work study (upper division students only) as well as the Stafford and private loans. You may apply for financial aid after the March 15th priority deadline; however, you will not be considered for a Law School Grant or work study. Therefore, it is very important that your financial aid applications be filed in a timely manner.
If you are applying for a federal or private loan you should follow the additional procedures outlined in Federal and Private Loans.
We suggest that you complete the FAFSA online at www.studentaid.gov. The FAFSA form is also available from any college or university financial aid office or you may contact the Law School Financial Aid Office to request that a copy be mailed to you.
In order for the information you report on the FAFSA to be released to the financial aid office at Temple Law School you must list Temple University School of Law as one of your school choices on the FAFSA application. Our school code is 003371. If you file a paper FAFSA, do not send your FAFSA form to the financial aid office. It should be sent to the federal processor.
The 2024-2025 FAFSA form will request information from your 2022 federal tax return. The FAFSA will require your consent to use the FA Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX) to import your 2022 Federal tax information. It is likely that you have already filed your 2022 Federal taxes, but if you have not and you indicate “will file” on the FAFSA, we may be required to request that you submit your federal tax transcript to our office after you file.
Graduate/Professional level students are considered to be independent for purposes of applying for financial aid and parental information is not required for any aid offered by Temple Law School. Accordingly, you do not have to provide parental information on your FAFSA if you are only applying to Temple. Please note: You may be required to provide this information by another school to which you are applying. If you provide it on your FAFSA, we will not use the information when determining your financial aid offer.
Shortly after you file your FAFSA you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary. If you filed your FAFSA online, you will receive your FAFSA Submission Summary electronically. Otherwise, it will be sent to you through the mail. The FAFSA Submissions Summary will outline the information you provided on your application. You are given the opportunity to make corrections, if necessary. The first page of your FASFA Submission Summary contains very important information. Read it carefully and make sure you keep a copy of your entire FAFSA Submission Summary for your records. Due to processing delays, the federal government will not be able to process 2024-2025 FAFSA records until late January, which means that the FAFSA Submission Summary may not be available to you until the end of January or early February.
You may be required to provide additional information in order to complete or supplement your financial aid application. It is important that you respond to such requests in a timely manner. You will not receive a financial aid offer letter until our office determines that your financial aid file is complete. An offer letter will be issued after your eligibility for scholarships and need-based funds have been determined. If your offer letter does not list a federal or private loan that means that you have not yet completed the necessary steps to request one. See Federal and Private Loans, for more information.
Financial aid offers are made during the spring and summer prior to the start of the academic year. Applicants are advised that final offers cannot be made at the time of the admission to the law school. Upon request, however an estimated financial aid package is available from the law school financial aid office if the FAFSA form has been filed and we have access to the record. Once your financial aid file is completed, you will be issued an official financial aid offer.
LL.M. Students
Students enrolled in the LL.M. programs for Trial Advocacy, American-International Law, Transnational Law or Taxation who anticipate the need for financial assistance should follow the same application procedures as JD students. Most LL.M. students are eligible to borrow through the federal or private loan programs and may refer to the section on Federal and Private Loans for more details. Students enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible to borrow federal student loans unless they are simultaneously enrolled in an LL.M. degree program. The Law School Financial Aid Office does not award any scholarship or grants to LL.M. students, however, students should check with their respective programs regarding any funds awarded directly by the program.
