Temple Law is proud to announce the establishment of the Andrew J. Stern Temple Law Trial Advocacy Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by the Stern family to memorialize the life and legacy of Andrew J. Stern LAW ’86, a dynamic trial lawyer and “Founding Father” of Temple Law’s first-ever trial team. The fund will provide scholarships to three rising 3L law students annually who have excelled in developing advocacy skills. Dara Broadnax LAW ‘23, Ananya Kulkarni Law ‘23, and Cormick McLaughlin LAW ‘23 have been named as the inaugural Stern Trial Advocacy Scholars.

Interim Dean Rachel Rebouché welcomed the Stern family and friends to a celebration of the Andrew J. Stern Temple Law Trial Advocacy Scholarship Fund and offered praise for Andy’s accomplishments.  “Andy was an exemplar of what we call a Temple Lawyer – tenacious, hard-working, talented, and firmly focused on clients, community, and those he held close,” remarked the dean. “He helped put Temple Trial Advocacy on the map, and set new bars for advocacy and service throughout his career.” Gwen Roseman Stern LAW ’86 and Jennifer Stern LAW ’22, joined by Jeffrey Stern LAW ‘25, shared family memories and reflected on how this scholarship honors Andy’s lifelong commitment to social justice. The Honorable Mitchell S. Goldberg LAW ‘86, who served with Andy on Temple Law’s first National Trial Team, also offered reflections on Andy’s skills as a lawyer and his impact on him and on countless others.

As part of Andy Stern’s legacy and the Stern family’s ongoing work, The Andrew J. Stern Temple Law Trial Advocacy Scholarship Fund affirms a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable legal landscape. In thanking those gathered for the event, Dean Rebouché expressed gratitude to them for allowing the law school to help ensure that Andy’s work continues and lives on through the students who will benefit from this scholarship fund. “When we talk about the strength of the Temple Law community, we are talking about you. Your contributions, and the many additional ways you support our students, are a lasting tribute to a man who gave of himself so much.”
