Professor Nancy J. Knauer served on a plenary panel titled LGBT Youth in Crisis:What Can You As a Lawyer Do? at the 2014 Lavender Law conference, held August 21-23 in Times Square. Knauer’s scholarship on the issues confronting LGBT youth has been instrumental in shining a light on the breadth and depth of the crisis, which has been compared in proportion to the AIDS holocaust of the 1980s and 90s, as well as on the range of strategies and initiatives being implemented in response at various levels across the country.
In addition to teaching and serving as the Director of Law and Public Policy Programs at Temple Law, Knauer sits on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Institute of the National LGBT Bar Association.
The panel, which also included advocates, a judge, and a LGBT youth speaker, was similar in nature to Knauer’s acclaimed theory-meets-practice conference series, and drew significantly on the discussions that took place at Temple Law’s 2013 conference titled “LGBT Youth: Reconciling Pride, Family, and Community.”
