IMG_9289Kyle Latimer, resident
legal counsel to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, addressed the Beijing
LL.M. students on Wednesday, August 28. Latimer spoke on the
Sino-U.S. Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement, providing an overview
of how the two countries work together on legal matters. He also
discussed the Bank of China Kaiping branch case, in which the
Chinese and U.S. governments cooperated to convict three
ex-officials of the bank who embezzled funds and moved to the
United States. Based on his direct participation in this case, he
answered the students’ questions about international collaboration
in criminal affairs as well as details on U.S. criminal procedure
law.
