Commitment to community is one of Temple Law’s most cherished traditions, affirmed and reaffirmed by the care with which our faculty, staff, and students have worked to make us more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible. Recent initiatives to this end include:
- renovations for and conversions to all-gender restrooms;
- pronoun stickers for 1L name cards so professors can address students correctly;
- collaboration with Temple’s Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Leadership (IDEAL) to make 1L orientation more welcoming and inclusive;
- designation of a private Prayer Room;
- designation of a private Lactation Room;
- launch of the Community and Conversation monthly chat series, a forum for students and faculty from marginalized groups to engage outside the classroom;
- substantial scholarships available to students of color and first generation students;
- the inaugural #IAM Day, during which law school community members are invited to wear pins celebrating an aspect of their identity;
- improved access to Barrack Hall and the library reference desk for people with physical disabilities; and
- participation in the Pennsylvania Inter-Branch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness to develop best practices recommendations for law schools.
