Tarrant Mahony

Associate Professor of Law, China Program

Tarrant M. Mahony is an Associate Professor of Law and Director of Temple Law’s Online LL.M. in International Business Law and the LL.M. Program in Beijing. He has taught in the Beijing LL.M. program since its founding in 1999 and plays a key role in the development and oversight of Temple’s global legal education initiatives.

In addition to his academic work, Professor Mahony brings significant experience in legal knowledge management. He previously served as Director of Knowledge Management and Training at O’Melveny & Myers and as a Knowledge Management Lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Professor Mahony earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and holds both a B.A. in Asian Languages and Literature and an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford University. He is also a member of the State Bar of California.

His teaching and research focus on International Business Transactions, U.S. Property Law, and Chinese Foreign Investment Law. He is the author of Foreign Investment Law in China: Regulation, Practice and Context, a widely used textbook and reference for students, attorneys, in-house counsel, and business professionals seeking to understand the legal framework for foreign investment in China. He is proficient in both Chinese and Japanese.
