There’s a new club on campus that’s all the buzz: the Temple Alternative Dispute Resolution Society (ADRS). ADRS provides students with opportunities to learn about and develop essential skills in alternative dispute resolution and different transactional fields through guest speakers, skills workshops, and competing in tournaments for law students around the country.
ADRS was founded in Spring 2025 by a group of current 3L students who realized their future careers lay outside the courtroom. Through coursework such as the Integrated Transactional Program and Lawyering for Entrepreneurship, the latter of which is taught by the club’s faculty advisors Matt Devine and Jackie Dansak, ADRS members have developed a keen interest in transactional work. Recognizing a lack of transactionally focused extracurricular activities at Temple Law, the ADRS team created the club to meet the demands of a growing number of students.
ADRS is seeking Temple Law alumni who are interested in getting involved with the club and connecting with its students. The club is eager to host guest speakers and workshop instructors who work in ADR or transactional fields including mediation, arbitration, mergers and acquisitions, business formation, commercial transactions, or corporate finance. Additionally, there are a number of ADRS students who are interested in being mentored one-on-one by practicing transactional attorneys.
A primary focus of ADRS is to prepare its students to compete in competitions hosted by various law schools and the American Bar Association. These competitions provide a simulated environment in which students can gain vital experience practicing skills such as negotiating, critical thinking, public speaking, and drafting contracts or other legal documents. Competition topics include negotiating business transactions or endorsement deals, arbitrating civil lawsuits, and client counseling. ADRS has more than fifty active members, many of whom are passionate about competing in one or more of these competitions.
