In November 2016, Professor Peter Spiro and Professor Ramji-Nogales co-hosted a three-day workshop at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center in Bellagio, Italy, to explore the question, “What is global migration law?” This conference, sponsored by the American Society of International Law’s Migration Law Interest Group (which Prof. Spiro and Prof. Ramji-Nogales co-chair) brought together twenty scholars from around the world with a variety of international law perspectives. Participants explored the concept of global migration law and discussed its development as a new scholarly field of inquiry. Papers providing a workshop overview and suggesting future directions for the field will be published as an AJIL Unbound symposium in 2017.
