{"id":1490,"date":"2017-10-30T11:25:36","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T15:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/?p=1031"},"modified":"2017-10-30T11:25:36","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T15:25:36","slug":"temple-law-professors-speak-abila-international-law-weekend-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/2017\/10\/30\/temple-law-professors-speak-abila-international-law-weekend-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Temple Law Professors Speak at ABILA International Law Weekend Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From October 19-21, the American Branch of the International Law Association (ABILA) and the International Law Students Association (ILSA) held the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilsa.org\/conferencesILW\/ILW2017Program.pdf\">International Law Weekend conference<\/a> in New York City.\u00a0 The event, entitled \u201cInternational Law in Challenging Times,\u201d brought together hundreds of scholars and practitioners, including three Temple Law professors and one professor from Temple University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/dunoff.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-528\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/dunoff-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Professor Jeffrey Dunoff, the Laura H. Carnell Professor of Law and Director of LL.M. in Transnational Law Program at Temple Law, participated in a panel entitled \u201cStructural Constraints on Judicial Arbitrators\u2019 Independence.\u201d \u00a0Mark Pollock, a Professor of Political Science and Law at Temple University moderated the discussion. \u00a0Panelists identified and analyzed recent efforts by states to constrain the powers of international courts and tribunals, as well as the strategies judges and arbitrators use to maintain their autonomy and independence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Ramji-Nogales-preferred-2015-300x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-947 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Ramji-Nogales-preferred-2015-300x400-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"122\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a>Professor Jaya Ramji-Nogales, the Stern Professor of Law, took part in a discussion entitled \u201cDefining Global Migration.\u201d \u00a0The panel explored the emergence of global migration law beyond the Refugee Convention and considered its application to the growing contradictions of state responses to unstoppable migration flows. \u00a0Further, the panel addressed the existing dispersion of migration law through other international law fields, including human rights and humanitarian law, the law of the sea, international labor law, the law of trafficking, and trade law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Screen-Shot-2017-02-08-at-9.39.14-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-897 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Screen-Shot-2017-02-08-at-9.39.14-AM-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Professor Peter Spiro moderated the &#8220;Defining Global Migration&#8221;
