{"id":1158,"date":"2018-03-19T18:26:46","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T22:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/?p=1158"},"modified":"2018-03-19T18:26:46","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T22:26:46","slug":"institute-hosts-third-in-series-of-international-alumni-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/2018\/03\/19\/institute-hosts-third-in-series-of-international-alumni-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Institute hosts third in series of International Alumni Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, March 14, the Institute for International Law and Public Policy held the third in a series of alumni panels discussing careers in different international fields. \u00a0During the panel discussion, three Temple Law alumni provided insights into their careers and described how their experiences in international law at Temple led to their current jobs. \u00a0The panel included Oksana Wright \u201909, Jane Charles-Voltaire \u201911, and Benjamin Kraut \u201914, and was moderated by Professor Jaya Ramji-Nogales.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Wright_Oksana_Main-large-headshot-photo-1749.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1159 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Wright_Oksana_Main-large-headshot-photo-1749-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxrothschild.com\/oksana-g-wright\/\">Oksana Wright<\/a> is an associate in the New York office of Fox Rothschild LLP.\u00a0 Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and cross-border disputes.\u00a0 Ms. Wright has significant experience in the enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitration awards, obtaining evidence abroad, and protecting intellectual property and trade secrets. \u00a0In her private practice, she represents both domestic and foreign entities. \u00a0Born in Russia, Ms. Wright received her B.A. and M.A. from St. Petersburg State University School of Law in 2004.\u00a0 She then earned her LL.M. in International and Comparative Law in 2005 from the University of Georgia School of Law.\u00a0 In 2009, Ms. Wright obtained her J.D. from the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-5.43.41-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1161 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-5.43.41-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iawj.org\/about-us\/iawj-staff\/\">Jane Charles-Voltaire<\/a> currently works as a Senior Program Officer for the International Association of Women Judges, and manages projects in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Pakistan.\u00a0 In Haiti, she works with the Haitian Association of Women Judges to promote Haiti\u2019s new anti-trafficking legislation.\u00a0 In the Dominican Republic, she collaborates with justice sector institutions to improve access to justice for victims of gender-based violence.\u00a0 In Pakistan, she works with women judges to promote gender equality within courts.\u00a0 Before joining the IAWJ, Ms. Charles-Voltaire worked in Haiti for four years as local counsel, with a Haitian law firm, for the United States Agency for International Development in Haiti (USAID).\u00a0 Ms. Charles-Voltaire, a Haitian-American, has dedicated her work and education to advancing human rights, community development, and environmental sustainability.\u00a0 She received her B.A. from Wesleyan University in 2007 and her J.D. from Temple Law in 2011.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-5.45.46-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1163 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-19-at-5.45.46-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"147\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a>Benjamin Kraut currently works at the U.S. Department of State where he leads the Department\u2019s implementation of the Global Magnitsky Sanctions Program, combatting human rights violations and corruption worldwide.\u00a0 A career civil servant, Mr. Kraut joined the State Department in 2015 as a Presidential Management Fellow in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, Office of Sanctions Policy and Implementation. \u00a0He has served as a member of the Iran Sanctions team, working towards the Obama Administration&#8217;s implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or &#8220;the Iran Deal.&#8221;\u00a0 He has also led successive Administrations in crafting comprehensive sectoral sanctions on North Korea.\u00a0 Additionally, Mr. Kraut worked overseas at the United States Embassy in London on sanctions policy, and in the Department\u2019s Office of the Legal Adviser as a sanctions attorney.\u00a0 He earned his B.S. from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2011 and his J.D. from Temple Law in 2014.\u00a0 At Temple, he was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.temple.edu\/academics\/experiential\/tlpp\/scholars\/2013-scholars\/\">Law and Public Policy Scholar<\/a> and interned with the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the discussion, each panelist pointed to specific opportunities and professors at Temple Law that helped mold their international experiences. \u00a0Each emphasized that students seeking careers in international law should take advantage of Temple\u2019s study abroad programs and distinguished international law faculty.\u00a0 Further, the alumni advised students to diversify their interests and gain transferable skills like language ability to best market themselves to employers.<\/p>\n<p>This panel was the third in a series of international alumni career events hosted by the Institute.\u00a0 On January 21, the Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/institute-hosts-recent-alumni-international-career-panel\/\">hosted<\/a> three recent graduates that detailed their career paths since graduation, and on February 1, Neil Nolen \u201995 gave a <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.law.temple.edu\/iilpp\/women-conflict-kosovo-afghanistan-ukraine\/\">lecture<\/a> about his experiences in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, March 14, the Institute for International Law and Public Policy held the third in a series of alumni panels discussing careers in different international fields. \u00a0During the panel discussion, three Temple Law alumni provided insights into their careers and described how their experiences in international law at Temple &#8230;
