ABOUT THE EVENT:

Temple University Beasley School of Law, in collaboration with co-sponsors the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University, and Temple’s Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy, and Leadership (IDEAL), invites you to an evening of inspiration and community as we mark the opening of an extraordinary exhibit, “Lessons of Resilience and Courage from German Jewish Women Lawyers,” which explores the lives and experiences of 17 Jewish women lawyers in Germany before 1945 and reflects on the intersection of discrimination and persecution, with lessons of resilience and courage.  This evening will challenge, inspire, and invite hope for a future where discrimination is eliminated from our institutions and our lives.

The exhibit will open with a formal program during which Dr. Michael Bornstein, author of Survivors Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz; Dr. Ariella Werden-Greenfield, Temple University’s Special Advisor on Antisemitism and Associate Director of the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History; Professor Roberta Liebenberg, Esquire; and Dr. Stephanie Scharf, Esquire will explore the bravery and extraordinary character displayed by the German Jewish women lawyers who are the subject of the exhibit and consider the lessons of hope they leave us as their legacy. A musical interlude will be followed by an open reception during which guests are invited to experience the exhibit.

“Lessons of Resilience and Courage from German Jewish Women Lawyers” was created by the German Association of Women Lawyers (Deutscher Juristinnenbund). March is Women’s History Month and this exhibit will be open at the law school from March 14, 2024 until March 28, 2024. Organizations and individuals can schedule tours, discussions, and meetings related to the exhibit by booking an appointment here
