The idea that some crimes are so grave as to concern all of humanity is used to justify international action in various contexts, as illustrated by the chorus of voices calling for an international trial of Russian President Putin for his actions in Ukraine. In this talk, based on her book by the same title, Professor and international criminal law Judge Margaret deGuzman will examine some of these contexts, demonstrating the constructive and destructive roles the concept plays in the international criminal law regime.
