Students represented client organizations\u00a0(including community groups, nonprofit organizations, and governmental agencies) in a range of systemic advocacy matters. Through this work, Justice Lab students developed expertise in finding creative solutions to legal problems, as well as in interviewing, research and information gathering, policy, legislative, and strategic analysis, written and oral advocacy, collaboration, project planning and management, professional ethics, negotiation, and media advocacy.<\/p>\n<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1098 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/ejc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2017\/03\/City-Council-hearing-1-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/ejc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2017\/03\/City-Council-hearing-1-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/ejc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2017\/03\/City-Council-hearing-1.jpg 565w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/h1>\n<p>In 2017, Justice Lab received the Clinical Legal Education Association&#8217;s Award for Excellence in a Public Interest Case or Project, a national award recognizing one law clinic project each year. \u00a0The award recognized Justice Lab&#8217;s investigation and advocacy campaign that ended Philadelphia&#8217;s decades-long practice of suing, and garnishing the wages of, working poor parents following a child&#8217;s incarceration. \u00a0You can read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/ejc\/double-punishment\/\">the juvenile incarceration costs\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/ejc\/double-punishment\/\">project<\/a> and watch the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/widget\/video-embed\/890692163901\">NBC News story featuring Justice Lab student Wes Stevenson.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other Justice Lab projects addressed affordable housing, cash bail reform, forensic science reform, and traffic court reform for returning citizens.\u00a0 Clients have included Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, Defender Association of Philadelphia, Montgomery County Public Defender Office, Pennsylvania Innocence Project, Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity, Redeemed PA, and the Youth Sentencing &amp;
