Lee Merritt LAW ‘12

Attorney Lee Merritt is a nationally recognized constitutional and civil rights attorney whose work spans courtroom advocacy, public policy, and institutional accountability. Known for representing the families of Ahmaud Arbery, Botham Jean and Atatiana Jefferson, he focuses on protecting constitutional rights and challenging abuses of power. His work extends into corporate America, examining how discrimination and institutional decisions shape opportunity, leadership, and power in the workplace.

Through the Merritt Civil Rights Fellowship, Attorney Merritt prepares emerging advocates through hands-on legal training, attorney mentorship, community advocacy, and immersive mock-trial experience. With partners and institutional allies including the National Bar Association, Morehouse College and UNT Dallas College of Law, the program connects aspiring lawyers with the skills, professional networks, and practical experience needed to advance civil rights.
