One answer is the Business Law Society (\u201cBLS\u201d), a student run organization dedicated to educating peers in the field of business law by providing networking opportunities with various legal practitioners in business-related fields, local corporate counsel, faculty and staff, and other students with similar interests. In partnership with Temple Law faculty, staff and alumni, BLS achieves its goals by sponsoring and hosting speaker events, panel discussions, and other social activities that encourage academic and professional discussions on current issues in the field of business law, specific practice areas, and career opportunities in business law.<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, for example, BLS hosted Professors Eleanor Myers and Rob Bartow, leaders of the second year Integrated Transactional Program (\u201cITP\u201d), to discuss the intricacies of practicing transactional law. In the spring semester, BLS hosted Professors Edward Ellers and Jonathan Lipson to discuss a new course being created to engage students in the practice of transactional law on a practical level. Importantly, the programs discussed a wide array of transactional practices and provided guidance to young law students on the importance of client counseling.<\/p>\n<p>This summer, I used these lessons in the fields of environmental and energy law. Specifically, I was able to speak confidently with prospective and current clients regarding their matters and to provide them with useful analysis for resolving their problem.<\/p>\n<p>This year, BLS looks to expand its educational opportunities by hosting several events and to introduce a mentoring program matching 1Ls interested in business law with more experienced 2Ls and 3Ls. In the fall, in partnership with Career Services, the BLS is organizing a panel discussion with recent graduates who will offer students tips on things they wished they\u2019d learned in law school, but didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/10q\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/12\/Raju.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-87\" src=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/10q\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/12\/Raju-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ajay Raju\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/10q\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/12\/Raju-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/10q\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/12\/Raju-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/law.temple.edu\/10q\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/12\/Raju.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In addition, on October 4, 2013, the BLS will host an interactive discussion with Ajay Raju (TLS \u201996) on innovative strategies in career development. In the near future, the BLS plans to host a panel of in-house counsel attorneys to describe their experiences, as well as factors in their decision to go in-house, the differences between in-house and other private practices, and what their jobs entail.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to the exciting events of this upcoming year and appreciate the support that the faculty, staff, and other students have provided while building and enhancing the BLS.
